Snorkeling California:
And Beyond
Treasure Island, Laguna Beach, California
Treasure Island offers jaw-dropping scenery, muliple snorkeling locations, and excellent facilities. It is one of my favorite places to snorkel along the coast of Southern California. Disclaimer

Location
Parking is available at metered locations and paid public parking lots along the PCH and just off. There is also paid parking at nearby Aliso Beach further to the south. Restrooms and rinse showers are available just above the beach. Paved walking trails just below the beautiful Montage Resort offer access to the various coves and beach portions of the Treasure Island beach.
Snorkel Treasure Island
There are two coves at the north end of the beach, along with a semi-cove, formed by a rocky outcropping closer to the road. All three spots have an abundance of marine life. I have seen countless fish species here, and even a seal enjoying the rocks. Visibility can be hit or miss and strong currents pose a threat. There isn't too much eel grass near the shore except in the middle cove. The bottom drops off quickly to 10-15 ft a few yards out from the shore as well. On a sunny day, with calm waters, the visibility is outstanding and the surrounding scenery leaves one feeling as if they are in the tropics! Garibaldi, opal eye, surf perch and several other species frequent these waters.
Also, several beautiful tide pools offer glimpses of the underwater world without requiring viewers to get wet. This is a protected marine area, no collecting or taking of any kind is allowed, so leave the nets, terrariums, and spearguns at home!
