Floating Wrist Strap
You'll run into these floating wrist straps for camera at many dive shops and beach stores. There is a variety of companies that make them, including Olympus, Polaroid, and more. I've been using one occasionally, after losing a GoPro to a rogue wave.
However, you'll notice how tiny and thin the atttachment cord to the camera is. It really doesn't inspire confidence, especially with heavier action cameras. The wrist strap itself doesn't secure all that great to my arm, either.
Still, it actually does work. It's been able to suspend my heavy BlackVue Sport action camera and my Rush Action camera. In fact, despite crashing waves, it kept my Rush floating nearby with ease and allowed me get it fairly quickly.
I recommend a Floating Grip Handle for your action camera's instead, but this floating wrist strap is certainly better than nothing-a lesson I learned the hard way!
